The First Annual Powhatan Native People Pauwau was held October 6, 2007 at the Powhatan County Fairgrounds in Powhatan, Virginia!  What a wonderful day!  With a turnout of over 1400 people from all over Virginia, North Carolina, and the East Coast - spirits soared throughout the day!  All who gathered were delighted with precious Native People from many different tribes.  The fellowship and the remembrance of what our People had gone through and experienced was a day of honor.  Some described the day as a very peaceful day.  In our opinion it was.

The most precious part of the day to us was an answer to prayer.  For Powhatan has been graced with a Bald Eagle - who has taken up residency in our county about 8 months ago.  We have spotted this gracious creature several times and each time were in awe of it's strength and wisdom.  Last week, as we prepared for our Pauwau, we both prayed that God would grace us with the presence of this Eagle on our Pauwau day.  So it was confirmed by several people ... during our opening ceremony and tribute to "Blue Eagle" who passed over last week, this Eagle was hovering due west.  We believe this was a sign from above that our Lord was truly honored at the thanks given Him that day.

For we are here because of our Creator, and we survive each day and learn and grow because of our Lord's hand of mercy and guidance.

God blessed us with beautiful weather - smiling faces - soaring spirits - and bountiful blessings on our FIRST Pauwau.  May God's richest blessings be upon all who attended and participated.
Peace be with you our friends.

O’ GREAT SPIRIT, whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me!  I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.

LET ME WALK IN BEAUTY, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
MAKE MY HANDS respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
MAKE ME WISE so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.

LET ME LEARN the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

I SEEK STRENGTH, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my
greatest enemy - myself.

MAKE ME ALWAYS READY to come to you with
clean hands and straight eyes.

SO WHEN LIFE FADES, as the fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you without shame
